This is my all time favorite album. The music is wonderful and the words, though stream of consciousness, have a special meaning for me.

For fans of progressive rock it does not get much better than this. Yes decided to go all out on this one releasing an entire album that consisted of only 3 tracks. The title track "Close To The Edge" clocks in at just under 19 minutes. "And You And I" is just over 10 minutes, and "Siberian Khatru" is just under 9 minutes. Yes was willing to take chances and this is one time that it really paid off. Most Yes fans consider "Close" to be one of their all time great albums. I for the most part agree, although I have never been a huge fan of the song "And You And I". The title track is as good as anything the band has ever done, and ranks up with the top progressive rock compositions of all time. "Siberian Khatru" is another great one where the band rocks it up with a slightly heavier sound. This was Yes at the top of their game.

Close to the Edge is the greatest album, not just in the progressive rock category, of all time. It is a brilliant combination of classical style compositions with 70's rock and roll instruments that creates an extraordinary masterpiece. Having listened to all Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, ELP, Moody Blues, Camel, and Rush albums, I can gladly say that this is the by far the beacon of progressive music.
