Editorial Review

This enchanting activity game will keep younger kids happily distracted, whether it's played indoors or out. A cute, blue elephant blows 30 feathery, vinyl butterflies from its 4-foot trunk into the air. The trunk, made of flexible plastic, stands straight up when the small, quiet motor in the elephant's bottom is turned on. Kids use mesh nets (four included) to capture the most butterflies, same-color butterflies, or just catch 'em period. Requires four C batteries, not included. --Diane Beall

A Little Fun for the Little Ones - Reviewed on 2008-07-17

My 6 year old saw this on a TV ad and wanted it for his birthday. This toy cannot be played without any adult or older kids around. It is too difficult for them to put back all the butterflies in the toy for another 30 seconds of fun. The Elefun has a fan at the bottom that blows the ribbonlike fabric butterflies along its plastic trunk to the top. Actually my older kid is a bit disappointed that the butterflies does not look like butterflies at all. The plastic trunk can get permanent creases overtime that may make it hard to stand up straight unless the fan is running.
It is like a ride in an amusement park, your wait is longer than a few seconds of fun. The longest they have played with it was about ten minutes.
Replacement for Bubbles indoors - Reviewed on 2008-06-01

I like the concept of the machine - but it could be FASTLY improved by adding a loading feature on the side of the unit. Don't expect this to babysit your child it is a very quick game. I think the poor reveiws are due to the fact that it does not come with many buterflys making it over quite quickly and the fact that you have to pull the trunck off to reload is a factor - cause you doing that every 20 seconds. What you can do when making your extra tissue paper butterflies is to make them a LITTLE BIGGER than those that come with the unit - and once you twist the rectangular cut outs for your buterflies round off the edges. Bigger paper means longer air time. I got this to replace my daughters OBSESSION with me blowing bubbles inside. This is less messy and she likes to watch things fly. I would love to see some type of toy that has a child safe fan like this that the kids can put little skydivers on themselves without mommys help all the time. Mommy has a few other things that she needs to do - lol. And sometimes we need things kids can operate themselves. I think most parents were hoping this was one but its not. So just because its a nice idea and works PRETTY GOOD I am giving it a 3 - cause for $20 I expect a bit more than I got out of this - even though my Angel who just turned 3 loves it. I think it should have been about $10 just like my bubble blower.
Battery Eater, fun for two minutes. Needs BIGGER Fan. - Reviewed on 2008-05-31

My four year old twins like this game, however it takes really fresh, good quality batteries to even get the butterflies out. Also, the butterflies fly out in about 15 seconds and then you have to refill it and that takes a couple of minutes. This toy need constant supervision until you teach the kids how to refill it. Pretty dissapointing considering the upper end price.

All three of my grandkids loved this toy, and it has lasted for over 10 years, which is pretty good. I bring it out to encourage cleaning up of toys after play time. The nets have all stayed in tact. You will need to be careful with the plastic trunk when packing. Sometimes the butterflies stick, but a gentle tap and up they fly. I will agree with others that the batteries are a drag and more butterflies would have been great, but the grandkids love it, move around with it, so I couldn't be happier.

I do home daycare and I have six children two and under! I actually bought TWO of these...because I needed six nets and more butterflies but THEY LOVE IT. It is great fun! YEs you do have to sit right there, to reload! BUT they all LOVE IT.
