Editorial Reviews and Product Descriptions

Product Description

We could talk about the Serious Sam backstory, but that would be missing the point, namely to commit carnage on a galactic scale. The smooth engine, multiplayer options, and fast pace make this game a solid choice for fans of first-person shooters.

The interface uses the tried-and-true Xbox formula for shooters: the left thumbstick controls movement and the right thumbstick controls the angle of view. The extensive arsenal is something special though, with each weapon possessing a different efficiency so you have to find the perfect weapon quickly for each situation. For instance, the shotgun is a great weapon for up-close fighting among a crowd of enemies, but it's horrible at a distance or when you're stuck in the middle of a melee. The enemy list is also quite extensive. You will be fired upon, stepped on, stabbed, slashed, and electrocuted. Enemies will appear by land, air, and water.

What makes this game stand out and keep you interested, though, is its irreverent, offbeat sense of humor. Serious Sam makes outlandish comments throughout the game, rides cosmic surfboards between scenes, saves progress at Dr. Who-like telephone booths, and pays homage to the Indiana Jones theme song. And you can change the blood splatters between red, green, and hippy (flowers and fruit). Our only major complaint is level design. Even when you believe you've cleared a room, enemies can pop out of midair and injure you. By not allowing you to seal yourself off from the onrushing masses in appropriate spaces, a major strategic element has been missed. --Eric Franklin

Ye gads, this game is long - Reviewed on 2008-10-03

If you are not into realism, but just want non-stop action that goes on for freakin ever, this is the game. The enemies are cartoonish and the load times are near unbearable, but it is non stop action for a looong time. I also would have preferred not to have new enemies magically pop up in an area that I just cleared, but it is not really a game grounded in reality to begin with. The environments are really well done and the game tries to have somewhat of a story to it, but this is not the game to play for the realistic player. Although Serious Sam uses limited saves, like that which un-creatively plague most of the games today, it is irrelevant here, because you get gobs of lives that allow you to respawn on the spot should you die. If you are bored and want some mindless shooting action, here is the place to be.

This is one of the most enjoyable games I have ever played. It is a start to finish game, you can't stop playing once you start.
Shoot EVERYTHING!!! - Reviewed on 2008-04-07

Your key to an enjoyable Serious Sam experience goes as follows:

-Pick up a bunch of guns.
-Shoot wave after wave after wave of rediculous bad guys.
-Laugh at Sams funny, Bruce Campbell-ish one-liners.
-Repeat till it becomes too repetative.
-Take a week or two off to play something a little more cerebrial and high brow.
-Come back to Serious Sam and have another awesome round of insane shooting bliss.

Thats it. Enjoy.

In short, playing Serious Sam is like listening to a good Motorhead or AC/DC record, its not high art, its not deep, but it totally rocks and when you're in the right mood, nothing could make for a better time.

Me and my kids luv this game, we got the xbox 360 and PS3 and the HI DEF graphics are nice but for serious fun we pop in the serious Sam, even though its an older orig xbox game the graphics and game play along with the weapons and action is really good. We also luv the Serious Sam 2, I hope we get a Serious Sam 3 for the 360 and PS3
One of the best games ever created! - Reviewed on 2007-08-06

Serious Sam is an amazing game. The atmosphere is absolutely incredible. I wish there was a soundtrack because the music is so ethereal and beautiful (besides the cheesy metal). I actually don't care for the action that much, but the storyline is what kept me playing. In a game called "Serious Sam", you probably don't expect a good storyline, but I think this game has a fantastic science-fiction/adventure plot. One of my favourite things in the game is the levels and landscapes. On some levels, you are in an epic valley or desert and the sky is so big that you almost feel overwhelmed. The sky is also amazing at night. This game is definitely worth getting and it is long for a FPS (10 to 15 hours). The main character, Sam "Serious" Stone is hilarious and memorable, and he is always making funny comments. In my opinion, the sequel (Serious Sam 2) was horrible, but at least I can always go back and play this amazing game.
