Filmed in Widespread Panic's hometown of Athens, Georgia, Panic in the Streets is evidence for the good people at Guinness to ponder as they try to verify the band's claim of hosting the "world's biggest CD release party," with up to 100,000 Spreadheads in attendance. Who knew that they kept track of such things? For that matter, who knew that Athens had a mayor (who introduces the group) with the wonderfully weird name of Gwen O'Looney? Such items of esoterica are the primary draw for this video, which is a companion of sorts to WSP's 1998 live album, Light Fuse Get Away. After all, the band members aren't that much to look at (sorry, guys), and the video snippets inserted during the songs--shots of Athens street life, dogs running, water, a train--don't add much conceptually to the proceedings. The band sure can play, though, and some of the songs included on the video were not on the Light Fuse album, so it's a must for completists. The bonuses are cool, too. The tape includes the Billy Bob Thornton-directed video of "Aunt Avis" (featuring Vic Chesnutt and Laura Dern), and there's also a bonus CD with versions of "Tall Boy," "Aunt Avis," "Fishwater," and "Chilly Water." --Daniel Durchholz

This is a gret dvd. Not the best. I put it behind Abb at the Beacon and Deepest End on best jam band dvds. But the hole band is tight, and herman is great on the keys. He adds so much shape to this dvd.

If you already own the vhs to this great show, ...and if you have a dvd player, it's time to shell out another ...[undiscloseddollar amount]. The picture quality is better, the audio sounds much better with a 5.1 mix. The main reason though, if better sound and video aren't enough, is that as a bonus they included the wonderful long out of print "Live at the Georgia Theatre" show as well!!! Great early Panic performance! Five stars is putting it mildly. Buy this now!

Man what an awesome video...gave me chill bumps. Went down in history as the largest release party ever. Lots of awesome close ups of the band and some AMAZING scenes of fields, and woods and stuff, very cool. A must have for any panic fan. Also includes a clip of JB singin the national anthem at a baseball game

What day in was in Athens that April. If you were not there this is a great pruchase to try and get some of the vibe on that spring night. From the first chords of "Disco" to "Ain't Life Grand" the boys had the streets of downtown Athens moving. Glad to be Dawg...
