Very cool, trippy music, only bad thing is it comes in a cardboard slip case, with no spindle to hold the CD. The CD just slides in like an envelope, if You're not careful You'll probably get some nice big scratches on it.

Another great find in the ambient genre! This one is great for driving, headphones, background, and chilling out. All of the Loscil albums are consistently good.

I find that most experimental electronic music takes work to appreciate - more work than I want to do. While Loscil flirts with glitches and odd rhythmic sounds, sometimes in a fast techno-like beat, he grounds most of the music in drones and slow, subtle chord harmonies. These make for compelling listening, whether acitve or passive. My favorite songs are the ones squarely on the dark-side (minor keys) - like Gymnote, Resurgam, Triton and Kursk. The music sounds very simple, perhaps even to the point that one asks - where's the talent? But, Loscil pulls off a hard task - minimalist composition with deep and moving effect. I highly recommend this albumn to fans of dark ambient music.

I have always had a thing for listening to ambient music in the depths of night, espcially as a come down (after some high grade skunk and chaos music), so much so that I now can't go to sleep unless some sort of music is being played (usually a toss up between jazz fusion or ambient dub/electronic/drone/post-rock. Accordingly i've build up a nice collection of semi/ambient records of which Kranky record releases feature extensivly. Currently though, this release is whats rocking my boat (or should I say submarine). It is utterly engaging and beautiful featuring warm sounding soundscapes which have a 'bubbling water' effect. You'll find elements of drone, micro-techno, dub and stunningly crafted electronic tinges to wrap it up.

The thing with this record is that, when played at low volumes it sounds utterly perfect, to me it sounds as close to natural as it gets (basically when it stops, the silence hurts me).Turn up the volume and elements comes through that didn't exist before and the music sounds even more mesmerising, cushioning your sore head as you float into the unknown. This lp as with all good albums works as a whole but the highlights are tracks 2 and the stunning track 8. Track 9 is the ultimate come down track and is dedicated to the ill-fated Kursk submarine.

Obviously Loscil's triplepoint debut album is on order as I write this. This will appeal to fans of Labradford, Windy and Carl, Aix Em Klemm, Stars of the Lid, Lustmord, Eno, Pole, Pan Sonic, etc.

To gain the most out of this cd you need a great hi-fi, it seriously makes a massive difference. Music of this texture and timbre just doesn't cut it on average hi-fi's as most of the beauty is lost. Also, don't bother downloading it and listening to it on you i-pod, this kind of music is for real music fans, the compressed mp3 quality coupled with the very poor musical dynamics of a portable mp3 player makes ambient music like this unlistenable.
