Excellent Information On Corporate Aircraft And Flying - Reviewed on 2004-07-11

"Business and Commercial Aviation" (B/CA) is an excellent magazine covering all aspects of professional flying, with a heavy corporate aviation tilt. The magazine is full of valuable information on all subjects dealing with corporate aircraft and flight operations.

The magazine focuses on new aircraft, equipment reviews, and test flights. On a nearly monthly basis one of the staff writers goes on a demonstration flight in a new or modified type of corporate aircraft, although sometimes the reviews are of new avionics, etc. There is a strong emphasis on safety in "B/CA", with a monthly article on some aspect of flying that any operator can learn from, such as high density altitude flying, thunderstorm flying, or operation in icing conditions. The magazine also features news articles germane to the field, and is particularly strong in reporting FAA and NTSB rulings that affect corporate or jet operators, as well as other high-profile matters of concern such as airport closures.

There are also normally articles reviewing aircraft systems, starting with generalities and then using specific examples from common jet aircraft. For instance, in the July, 2004 issue there is an excellent article on flight controls. While it is mostly an excellent review, when the article gets into aircraft specific systems analysis, there is something new for everyone to learn. Overall the systems reviews are hugely useful, and are, in fact, my favorite part of the magazine.

Although I fly for an FAR 121 scheduled carrier, I find that the information in "B/CA" is applicable to me, and think it is not to be missed. I generally read "B/CA" cover to cover, and think it makes me a better, more well-rounded pilot.
