Editorial Reviews and Product Descriptions

Product Description

Panasonic MC-4850 Canister Vacuum is a compact canister with standard attachments. This cleaner does not come with a power nozzle so it isn't as effective on carpets as power teams and uprights are. It is great to team with a powerful upright for cleaning your home.
Amazon.com Review

A streamlined model, this canister vacuum from Panasonic offers straightforward cleaning power and smart basic features. The 10-1/2-amp vacuum is suitable both for floors and above-floor cleaning tasks. It features bagged dirt collection, with a readily accessible bag hatch and a washable filter for trapping particulates. The vacuum's flexible hose attaches to the extension wands and 12-inch floor brush or directly to the tools for alternate cleaning tasks. To accommodate a variety of surfaces, the hose also features adjustable suction regulation, controlled by a sliding hatch. As an added bonus, the hose can convert to blower operation if inserted into a blower port in the base. The floor nozzle stores cleverly on the side of the canister, whether it's resting vertically or horizontally. Just slide it onto a support notch, and it stays upright by itself. Both power and automatic cord retraction on this model are controlled with large, foot-operable buttons, while the scaled-down tools store conveniently onboard in a small compartment. They include a crevice tool, a dusting brush, and an upholstery attachment. Panasonic's handy details include a suction indicator light, pivoting front wheel, headlight, and carrying handle. The vacuum comes with a 17-foot power cord. --Emily Bedard

I am mostly happy with my new vacuum. It is very light to pick up and moves easily around the house. It is not too noisy and the suction is quite good. the most annoying part of this vacuum is the plastic pole attachment. It doesn't stay together. It comes apart all the time as you move around cleaning. you have to stop quite often to pick up the pieces and put them back together

You will not be able to find a better vacuum for the price. I had it for the past four years and never had any problems with it. It has a great suction and it rolls around easy. The bags are easy to replacea and are inexpensive.
***** five stars!

The vacuum works ok...good suction, and rolls around well. The wand tubes don't stay attached to the hose, no matter how hard you force them in. The attachments are a joke, except for the floor attachment, which is plastic and is easy on floors and furniture. The hose is too short to reach an 8 foot ceiling unless you stand the vacuum on end. The cord retracts well, but could be a few feet longer. Forget about finding bags. Apparenty you throw the vacuum away after you use the two bags it comes with.

Living in a shared apartment with 3 others, I'm glad we don't have wall-to-wall carpeting. However, sweeping the tile and old hardwoods never seems to do the job, and you can spend a small fortune on Swiffer cloths...what's a guy to do? Buy an inexpensive vacuum cleaner.

I first bought a Euro-Pro Shark canister vac with HEPA filtration from a homegoods store. I wasn't wild about it, as it had some design quirks I didn't like. One month later, a roommate moved out and took it with him (I'm not kidding).

I did more research, and found some good reviews of Panasonic vacuum products in general. I decided to purchase this model, and I used it last night for the first time. I was impressed. The suction is very good, and the tools are well thought out and easy to use. The canister rolls very easily, so it follows you around without incident. It is surprisingly quiet compared to other machines, at least to my ear. I used it on tile and hardwoods, but also did a little bit of carpet cleaning: the suction was able to pull dirt out of a low-pile carpet, but this is really a machine for bare floors, as there is no agitator brush.

One design I had some concerns about were the two plastic pieces that form the cleaning "wand". Instead of a chromed metal extension wand, this machine has two interlocking plastic pices. I was afraid that they would come apart often, or reduce the suction of the machine. Fitting them together tightly is just fine, and I haven't had them come apart while cleaning.

Two really important features, in my view, are the on-board tool storage and the ability to hook the cleaning wand and floor attachment onto the canister. Without on-board tool storage, try finding the crevice tool when you want to clean your computer keyboard or the dusting brush when you want to clean blinds: having them in the vacuum is priceless. The ability to hook the extension wand onto the machine while cleaning or for storage is great, if you've ever had a vacuum sprawling all over a closet floor. It makes storage in an apartment much easier.

This is not a high-end vacuum, but definitely one I feel very satisfied with for the money.

This Upright Vacuum from Panasonic has a powerful 10.5 Amp Motor, and weights in at only 11.6 Lbs. with the attachments the power cord is 17' feet long, and you can attach the hose to the rear exhaust vent and use the vacuum as a blower. It also has the following unique features:

A Motor Protection System; this system seals the motor from particles that are picked up by the fan and directs them away from the motor and fan into the vacuum bag, thus preventing harm to the internal precision surfaces of the motor and fan. It also shuts the vacuum off if the motor gets too hot, and has a built in fuse in the event of a power surge.

Included attachments, which fit into the built in "Nozzle pocket" are, a blow-molded stretch hose, crevice tool, dusting brush, and upholstery brush. It also of course has a standard wide Floor Nozzle

This vacuum also has Panasonics Pause Stand Feature, and Stand By Storage Design. The pause feature allows the floor nozzle to be temporarily parked while attending to interruptions so you can easily resume vacuuming. The Stand by Storage feature allows the user to conveniently store the vacuum in a small space, and quickly begin vacuuming when necessary.

There is also a Vacuum gauge that lets you know when the 3.7 qt. bag needs to be changed, and ships with a handy carry/storage carton.
