Dean Martin, also known affectionately as "Dino" to both friends and fans; enjoyed great success as an entertainer over a forty year plus career that never stumbled despite the advent of rock and roll or any other type of music. Dean Martin sang classic ballads that remain timeless even today; and he could lead his adoring audiences wherever he wanted them to go with his exceptional wit, talent and charm.

The CD track set starts off very appropriate with Dean crooning "I Feel A Song Coming On;" Dean's voice has its trademark warmth and masculine sensitivity. The musical arrangement makes great use of the horns to bolster Dean's performance--as if he needed it! "Ain't That A Kick In The Head" was one of Dean's signature songs; you can really tell he enjoys singing this number when you hear him singing flawlessly. The arrangement by Nelson Riddle relies on horns to carry a great deal of the melody; and Riddle's arrangement works very well with Dean's vocals. Great!

Dean then gives us an awesome interpretation of "On The Street Where You Live" from My Fair Lady. Dean's elegant rendition makes this THE definitive rendition of this classic ballad. Nelson Riddle's arrangement again uses the horns; but the strings and the piano enhance the number as well. "You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You" has always been a personal favorite of mine; and Dean's excellent delivery helps this ballad shine as brightly as a golden nugget ever could. "Powder Your Face With Sunshine (Smile! Smile! Smile!) is another infectiously happy ballad Dean loved to sing; Dean sings of how his wants his woman to be happy because they love each other. Nice arrangement by Paul Weston, too!

Other special numbers on this CD include "Just In Time;" this joyous song lets Dean Martin sing of how a woman has changed a man's life from terrible to wonderful now that they are in love. Nelson Riddle's arrangement uses the horns as always; but the drums and percussion really top off "Just In Time" with whipped cream and a cherry on top. "Promise Her Anything (But Give Her Love)" is a snazzy song full of advice about how to please a woman; and "On The Sunny Side Of The Street" urges people to forget their troubles and just enjoy life. The backup chorus bolsters Dean Martin's delivery, too. What a relentlessly happy song!

The CD ends with yet another timeless ballad, "Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone." Yet again, Dean's interpretation is nothing short of perfect and Nelson Riddle's arrangement injects the number with flair and extra substance, too.

James Ritz writes a great essay about Dean and his work in the liner notes; and you get some terrific candid photos of Dean, too. All the song credits are listed and the cover art reflects good artistic judgment.

Dean Martin will always remain of the greatest entertainers who ever lived. Just one listen to this CD amply proves it. If you like this CD, I would suggest all the other Dean Martin CDs and the record albums that are now on CD that Dean made with The Rat Pack, too. In addition, anyone who loves classic pop vocals will love this CD.

There are a lot of Dean Martin compilation CD's out there, but this is the one to get. Dean Martin had a great voice, unfortunately, he recorded a lot of crap over the years. Instead of weeding through all of his old albums, this one put together a bunch of Dino's swingingest tunes. You will definitely enjoy this CD.

This is a great CD. Dean Martin is in great voice and the arrangements are superb. I liked all the songs but I especially enjoyed Ain't that a kick in the Head (which is probably Dino's best songs and one of the greatest swing songs of all time), All in a Nigts Work, and On the Sunny Side of the Street. This CD is a must buy for any Dean Martin fan or any fan of big band type swing music.
