"Comfortable" is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. - Reviewed on 2008-05-08

"Comfortable" is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

Ha ha...that probably sounds a bit hyperbolic, no? I swear, though, it is absolutely arresting in both its melody and its lyrics. I first heard "Comfortable" back in high school (I was one of those Atlanta kids who were lucky enough to catch John Mayer on the upswing), and it nearly stopped my heart, it was so beautiful and tragic. It still has the same effect on me, and I highly recommend it! It's the most original, poignant, and REAL break-up song you'll ever hear. Absolutely gut-wrenching. Amazing. Face-meltingly beautiful.

The rest of the album is also great, but "Comfortable" can only be found on "Inside Wants Out," so I wanted to highlight it in particular. "Love Soon" is a fabulously happy song--perfect for doing that little butt-wiggle dance in your car seat. (You know the one...don't lie!) And "Neon" is also one of my favorites; it tells the story of a girl who's addicted to the nightlife. Again, great tune, great lyrics. (As a sidenote: I once caught an ex-boyfriend of mine singing along with this song incorrectly. According to him, "she's always buzzing just like--Leon, Leon!" Not "neon," mind you...Leon. Hehehe!)

As I mentioned (and as other people have said), you can find some of these songs in more studio-ified versions on "Room for Squares." But this EP has a beautiful stripped-down quality to it which I love--so if you think you'd prefer that, go for it. And no matter who you are or what your tastes, you simply MUST download "Comfortable." It'll change your life.

All hail John Mayer!
Why does he hold a guitar on his album covers? - Reviewed on 2008-04-30

i have been a fan of john mayer since room for squares, but had never gone back and purchased this album! i really like the less "polished" versions of "no such thing" and "my stupid mouth"...acoustic versions more stripped down...and there are a couple of other great songs, like "love soon" that you won't find on the other major releases...if you are a fan of john mayer, definately pick this one up.

I have been buying and listening to John Mayer's music since I saw him live on Eric Claptons Crossroads Guitar Festival one & two and from the reviews so when I heard Inside Wants Out I didn't think it was as good as the reviews but is not bad either so don't regret buying the CD .
What is there to say? - Reviewed on 2008-01-14

I of course bought this long after I had bought his major studio release. Many people look at this as just a previous recording of "Room For Squares". I don't, I think of it has a retelling, many times we re-read a book or re-watch a movie we love to experience different aspects. This gives us the chance to do that in a different way. I like the more mellow sound of the songs here just as much as I like the popped up versions on "Room".
