Product Description

Little Tikes DiscoverSounds Tool Box Perfect for children 6-36 months, the Little Tikes DiscoverSounds Tool Box is a great way to introduce your little one to everyday shapes, colors, and numbers. They will love placing each shape in its designated area and bopping them through with the hammer. Lights and sounds are activated as each shape passes through. Then, when all shapes have gone through, simply flip the play area over and begin again. A terrific sensory development toy, the DiscoverSounds Tool Box promotes hand/eye coordination, spatial recognition, and will keep your baby entertained for hours.

Fun for a 13 month old - Reviewed on 2007-02-15

My son received this for Christmas and has been entertained with it for the past 2 months. He did have one incident the very first day he got it when he got his fingers pinched with the middle part, but that has not happened since then. We spent some time showing him how the toy is suppose to work, so he will sit and attempt to do it on his own. He does hold the hammer, but never actually uses it to put the shapes through. I honestly think he is learning shape distinction as a result of this toy. I also like the fact that the case is hard to open. It makes it much easier for travel and my son easily carries it around the house as a result.

The toy itself is wonderful for toddlers. My grandson wouldn't open anything else on Christmas morning after he saw this one. I like the fact that it has a toolbox theme as my 14-month-old grandson loves to "help" his dad fix things. It is just the right size and weight for a little one to carry around. The shape sorter is built into the "toolbox", so the shapes stay inside the box and are not as likely to get lost.
The only thing that doesn't seem to fit is the "DiscoverSounds" part of the title. It lights up and makes sounds when the shapes go through, but, other than that, there is nothing to "Discover" about the sounds.
Love it from 7 months on! - Reviewed on 2006-12-07

Our son got this toy at around 7 months and loved pushing in the shapes after we set them up. His interest continued and he later began hammering the shapes and then matching them to the holes by himself. The lights and sounds are a fun addition! This is one of the few simple toys that he has enjoyed for so many months.

I bought this toy for my 10 month old son thinking it would be fun with the different shapes and music. I usually sit and play with him cause he is too small to put the pieces in the right place, however, one day when I was not playing with him he grabbed the toy which was open and it closed on his finger. Luckily it did no long term damage but very disappointing especially with a product from Little Tikes. I think it's a fun toy just be sure to not leave it where your child can play with it without supervision.
Great for 12mo+ - Reviewed on 2006-10-09

We bought this toy for my son's first birthday. To begin with he just loved to have us place the shapes in the holes and then push them in the rest of the way. At about 18 months he started putting the shapes in himself.

While it doesn't provide hours of entertainment, he has continually gone back to this toy over the past 10 months and I expect that he will have fun with it for a while.

He also likes to carry around some of his other toys in it. I think he sees it kind of like dad's briefcase.

As for downsides on the toy, I can see the potential for pinched fingers. We've never had that problem with this toy. Our son has always been conscious of his little fingers, but I know most kids are not. Also, he has difficulty opening the case once it's been closed.
