Editorial Reviews and Product Descriptions

Product Description

Movie lovers, rejoice! This Toshiba FST Pure 32HF72 television delivers everything you've been dreaming of. 32" 16: 9 HD-compatible FST PURE flat tube eliminates unwanted reflections from room light compared to conventional tubes designs and increases viewing angle. 3D Y/C digital comb filter with vertical contour correction provides more accurate processing of RF and composite video signals for a sharper, cleaner picture. This advanced comb filter significantly reduces detail noise, seen as shimmering or flicker, in complex or intricately detailed scenes. CableClear digital noise reduction circuitry optimizes poor NTSC signals from antenna or cable, thus eliminating video noise (snow) for a clean crisp image. Dual Colorstream HD component video input provides the ultimate picture quality from high-resolution component video signals. Superb performance and comfort - that's what marks this TV.
Amazon.com Product Description

Toshiba's high-definition-ready 32HF72 TV is poised to render vivid, detailed images from DVD players, digital TV set-top boxes, digital satellite systems, cable television boxes--you name it. The 34-inch set's FST PURE fine-pitch flat picture tube not only looks cool, it minimizes unwanted reflections from room light and increases viewing angles while enhancing picture linearity. A special 16:9 mode displays a 16:9 high-definition source (full 1080i) with black bars at the top and bottom of the screen to maintain aspect ratio while wasting no screen lines on the bars. Improving upon standard interlaced signals (like those from DVD player, cable box, and VCR composite-video outputs), IDSC II performs frame, line, and pixel doubling to create progressive, full-frame images. Toshiba's motion-adaptive Hyper Progressive Scanning system analyzes 13,600 screen points to smooth edges and eliminate stair-stepping artifacts. The result is a smooth, filmlike image. (IDSC II passes through 1080i images without alteration.)

A 3D Y/C (4 MB, 10-bit) digital comb filter with Vertical Contour Correction ensures sharp, clean pictures from RF (older VCR, laserdisc) and composite-video signals. Meanwhile, dynamic Quadruple Focus improves edge and corner focus so you can enjoy legible text and graphics even at the outside of the screen. Advanced velocity-scan modulation also improves definition at picture edges by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas. Cinema Mode (3:2 pulldown switch) circuitry identifies original film-based content from DVDs, then reassembles the frame sequence to more accurately reproduce the original 24-frame-per-second material.

Dual ColorStream HD component-video inputs (Y, Pr, Pb) provide the ultimate picture quality from high-resolution component-video signals (as from compatible DVD players and satellite receivers). The 10-watts-per-channel 32HF72 offers two sets of rear AV inputs and a set of front AV inputs (all including S-video) for easy connection with a camcorder or gaming console. A rear AV output lets you hook the set up with a surround receiver. SRS 3D Sound simulates surround sound from any stereo audio, while Toshiba's Sub-Bass System (SBS) heightens the impact of low-frequency audio.

People who write that their VCR-through-old-analog-TV picture is better than progressive scan DVD though this gem of a HDTV are really only telling you that they don't know how to set up their new TV!!

This TV has good sound and a great DVD picture through the component jacks. Also, according to Consumer Reports, Toshiba has superior HD picture and excellent reliability, usually for significantly less than the other all-around high quality brand-Sony.

The picture quality of this TV was horrible. It has all the great feature but 20 day's later the newer model the 32HFX72 came out and is better & also cheaper!!! What a crock! I'm not pleased w/ this TV. The Progressive Scan from my DVD player to this TV looks worse than my RCA hook up to my 5yr old TV!!
