Not exactly dance-pop as commonly defined by Erasure or the Pet Shop Boys, Dirty Vegas's self-titled album nonetheless fits into the genre. In fact, "trace-pop" is arguably the best definition, as it is the likely offspring of Madonna's Ray of Light and Electronic's seminal debut CD. Promising, yes, but the songs become rather indistinguishable from one another, mainly because the vocals--compressed and folky--lend a sameness to tracks that are otherwise diverse in tone and pace. About half the album really shines. "I Should Know" marries a thumping techno beat with a euphoric Disney-like wonderment. "7AM" boasts the best melody on the album. The instrumental "The Brazilian" showcases the song's strength underneath the homogenizing vocals. And finally, "Days Go By," featured in a popular car commercial, mesmerizes with synthesized bongos and cosmic rhythmic brush strokes. --Beth Massa

Love this CD!! Downtempo & Trance Tracks - Reviewed on 2008-06-15

I had been familiar with Dirty Vegas through the very popular song Days Go By. When I ought this cd, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was blown away by the cd. It is a eclectic mix of electronica that I would compare to Crystal Method's Vegas album in quality.

There are a number of lazy, downtempo tracks as well as some awesome Trance Songs, which I am not familiar with at all, but would fit right in with a set of usual Club Trance fare.

Better than the car commercial... - Reviewed on 2008-05-27

It's too bad the fellows from Dirty Vegas have gone under the radar, as this CD is a gem amongst my collection. Great harmonies in the vocals and a chill ambiance give this album significant hours of play-time in my CD changer. It has an uncannily romantic feel to it as well which never fails to please whenever a date is around. Thumbs up, all the way.

Try not to think of the car commercial and you'll find "Days Go By" as a great song. Play the whole thing and you'll find how the rest of the songs also epitomize the sound of club music. They're a little like transcient pop, a little techo, and a little new age, but best of all are the hypnotic grooves which dominate this collection. This is dance music made chic with words that give food for thought. For example: "Never know what the future will bring, leave the past cause it don't mean a thing, so this is all or nothing."

Love it! Saw where it was recommended by Barry Manilow, and since I LOVE everything Barry does, I thought I would check Dirty Vegas out. Loved it! Could really dance to this CD. My 33 year old son says it's called Club Music and he loves it too. Matter of fact, he keeps borrowing it and conveniently forgetting to return it. Most of it is awesome, with this great thumpin beat and that techno-electronica sound. Had it on in the car this morning and this slow moving loaded flatbed was in front of me and the music made me want to go-go-go. Drove me NUTS! (OK--MORE nuts!) Seriously--great sounds and great sound quality. Barry was correct. (I knew he wouldn't fib anyway.)
