Editorial Reviews and Product Descriptions

Product Description

How do you create a game that has sold over 4 million copies in 30 different countries? Easy, just make it a game that anyone can learn in one minute, but that may take a lifetime to master. Loosely based on sumo wrestling, the point of Abalone is to push just 6 of your opponents 14 marbles off of the playing surface, but there is a catch. It takes two marbles to move one, and three to move two. Simple? Yes. Simplistic? By no means! The six directions of movement allow for infinite strategies both offensively and defensively. For 2 players. A 1990 Mensa Select Award Winner.

I'm a high school science teacher and bought this game for my classroom. It is great for kids who have finished assignments early and allows them to have fun while also working on thinking skills.

Hands down this is my favorite game in the world. I love it so much that it's now hard for me to find anyone who will play against me. The great thing about it is that you can buy it for a child around 10 years and older and someone who is an adult - it is just that fun of a game and it can be super challenging as well.
Great game - Reviewed on 2008-06-24

We saw this game years ago and purchased the 'travel' edition. We liked it but wanted a full size edition which we ordered. Great game, especially in this size which allows you to move the balls with ease. Fast to learn and yet challenging.

We played this game a few times. It was not too exciting. The kids ended up just playing with the marbles and promptly losing them. Then again, most games we have usually end up misplacing the pieces. Overall, it wasn't so much fun.

Bought this as a gift for an 11-year old birthday gift - for a brillant kid who loves these kinds of games. No complaints. Service was as promised and package arrived just in time.
