Awesome album - Reviewed on 2007-08-23

This is an outstanding album. Bob Forrest is one of the all time great songwriters and is out of place in todays music scene. There is not a bad song on the album and standouts are "Song for a Kevin Spacey Movie", "Max, Jill Called", and the closer "Boy at a Bus Stop." Great guitar work from a very underrated musician Josh Kilinghoffer. He and John Frusciante join forces on the amazing "Cereal Song" with an amazing solo. Very few albums are as consistent as this one. Even though it can be hard to find it is worth it.

I, like so many others, only bought this CD for the prescence of Josh Klinghoffer and John Frusciante. And what I found was an album so beautiful and emotional in every way, that is immediately addictive after the first listen, I would still give this album 5 stars even without the contributions of Josh and John. I had never even heard of the bicycle thief until I found this CD on amazon a little while ago, I had to wait months to get it, but it was worth the wait. I will definitely now be looking in to Bob Forrest's other work with Thelonious Monster. He is a soulful poet with so much honesty and emotion in his lyrics, it is impossible to get his words out of your head.
The music sounds beautiful, it reminds me a lot of Soul Asylum in a way, but where Soul Asylum sound very raw, this album sounds a lot more polished. You can hear John's guitar, perfectly painted over the top of a musical canvas. Standout tracks are Tennis shoes, Off street parking, Trust fund girl and Cereal song. It is a shame this was a one and only album by the group.
It is no surprise this CD got all good reviews, it really is a great album, buy it today, you will not regret it...!!!

Like others who have reviewed this CD I originally bought it because John Frusciante plays on it. I've now come to know that John is by no means the only good thing about it and this has become an absolute favourite. The music hits you the first time you play it. It is melodic, poignant and quite simply beautiful. It's also a breath of fresh air in an industry crowded with so much rubbish to sift through. Buy it. You won't regret it.

One of the best albums EVER, first of all I loved the title and only bought because John Frusciante plays on one song and because I love Josh Klinghoffer...I was amazed at how quickly the album won me over...Nowdays, I dont travel without it :)

I bought this album because I'm a huge John Frusciante fan, and was not sure what to expect. It quickly became my favorite album. It is melodic and slow at times, and upbeat and forceful at others. This was my introduction to Bob Forrest, and I have to say I will be getting Thelonious Monster albums after this. My favorite tracks are:

1. Song for a Kevin Spacey Movie
2. Rainin' (4AM)
3. Trust Fund Girl

To sum it up, this is just a great rock album. If anyone is reading this to try and decide whether or not to purchase it, please do, you won't be disappointed.
