A pop sound with alternative lyrics - Reviewed on 2006-11-15

I, like so many others, only bought this CD for the prescence of Josh Klinghoffer and John Frusciante. And what I found was an album so beautiful and emotional in every way, that is immediately addictive after the first listen, I would still give this album 5 stars even without the contributions of Josh and John. I had never even heard of the bicycle thief until I found this CD on amazon a little while ago, I had to wait months to get it, but it was worth the wait. I will definitely now be looking in to Bob Forrest's other work with Thelonious Monster. He is a soulful poet with so much honesty and emotion in his lyrics, it is impossible to get his words out of your head.
The music sounds beautiful, it reminds me a lot of Soul Asylum in a way, but where Soul Asylum sound very raw, this album sounds a lot more polished. You can hear John's guitar, perfectly painted over the top of a musical canvas. Standout tracks are Tennis shoes, Off street parking, Trust fund girl and Cereal song. It is a shame this was a one and only album by the group.
It is no surprise this CD got all good reviews, it really is a great album, buy it today, you will not regret it...!!!
