Great Intro to a great artiste - Reviewed on 2005-04-23

Being a Jill Sobule fan after all of one month from when I first heard her, I can say this captures the essence of her joyous and excellent insight into human nature as we all live it.
Her "Heroes", which I first heard on NPR is a classic of modern thought. "Karen By Night" on the other hand is a great throwback, thoughtful rocker.
Her thrown-in afterthought comments are a hoot.
All together a great musical collection.
Worthy of any attempt to get it!

Jill Sobule is an awesome artist, and if you like her music you should buy this CD. It's only a sample of her best music. But if you're just getting into Jill, it's a good starting point. It will only whet your appetite for her amazing music.

Jill never ceases to amaze and this compilation is no different. Like Warren Zevon she is a masterful lyricist and the best one to pick up his torch now that he is sadly dying of cancer. Big shoes to fill but she (and I think Zevon would heartily agree) will do the job with grace and style.

Buy it, you won't be sorry.

Jill Sobule of course!!!!! What else? Now she even has a new CD. I Never Learn to Swim. It has all my favorite songs on it, and a few more that I have just started to fall in love with. I have been in and out of relationships all my life and Jill has a song for all of them. Her satirical wit makes me laugh even when I am in the worst of moods. When I am in the mood to do something goofy all I have to do is walk around a public place with my girlfriend and sing songs like I Kissed a Girl and Supermodel. If I feel like curling up into a tight ball in crying all I have to do is listen to Hudini's Box. Sometimes when I just need to hear that someone else has problems I listen to The Girl in the Affair or Lucy at the Gym. You all should buy I Never Learned to Swim along with Pink Pearl, Jill Sobule, and Happy Town. All have great songs on them for all occasions. I hope you all can learn to appriciate all that Jill Sobule is. I love her so much for so many reasons and because I never learned to swim either

Warning! Warning! If you buy this CD, you will want to buy everything you can find by Jill Sobule. Since "Happy Town" appears to be out of print, you will experience frustration. Listening to Jill, however, will help you to deal with frustration.

Jill has written some of the most clever and interesting lyrics since Dave Cantor (see Dave's True Story). Oh, the melodies aren't bad, either.
