Editorial Reviews and Product Descriptions

Comprised of 12 tracks pulled from the Death Row Records rubble, this is the album that Snoop Dogg doesn't want you to hear. Why? Because these songs come straight from the studio floor. Disrespectfully titled Dead Man Walking by imprisoned Death Row president Suge Knight, the album hashes together unreleased and early versions of cuts from Snoop's Doggfather and No Limit Top Dog eras. "Head Doctor" features uncredited guest vocals from Raphael Saadiq and Tha Dogg Pound make saving appearances on the keyboard- and snare-driven "Tommy Boy" and "Cee Walkin'." The slow dragging funk of "Too Black" offers a hypnotic jazz feel. But the album's best offering is "Change Gone Come," with its eerie synthesizers and rippling bass line. If you want everything Snoop this ain't bad. But for the nonfanatic, there just isn't enough cream in this crop. --Kenji Jasper

A boring collection of rejected Snoop Dogg songs - Reviewed on 2007-05-15

Is there any point to owning this collection of rejected work that even Snoop Dogg himself didn't want released? Unless you're a hardcore fan of Doggy Dogg, then no. Some of the songs, like 'Too Black', 'County Blues', and 'Change Gon Come' are aiight... but that's only because the rest of the album is whack and forgettable. There's a reason why Snoop Dogg didn't want this album released, the vast majority of the songs on here are bland and forgettable. Skip it.

This album is not a new (for 2000)album between Top Dogg and Last Meal; this is a collective of older material. Believe it or not, the songs are dope to classic Snoop Dogg, but if all the reading I did is correct, this album was released without Snoop's desire (perhap's Death Row's Snoop Doggy Dogg's Greatest Hits was too), perhaps by Death Row's faltering empire trying to squeeze out as much money as possible. The songs are dope though, and the music is not why this album garners a 3 star rating. I respect Snoop Dogg's legacy, and if I found out about this before buying this I would just have to refuse buying this make due without classic tracks like "Hit Rocks" a real Snoop banger with a fantastic G-Funk beat, and "Change Gone Come" and the bouncy upbeat feel of bangers like "May I" gangstger inflected "Gangsta Walk." The beats on this album are hot as are the songs which remind the listener of the old Snoop, the loccest crip outta LBC with that laid back flow. The 3 stars are for the good music, and the missing 2 stars are for the rip-off of Snoop's music. If I'da known it, I probably would of passed this on in support of Snoop.

SNOOP DOGG
DEAD MAN WALKIN

For those who don't know a lot of these tracks were heard on the 1st "SMOKEFEST TOUR" video, so some may recognize some tracks.

1.MAY I-this Soopafly produced track is one of those classic Snoop joints we all know he can create. Ever since leaving Deathrow many have said that Snoop isn't what he used to be, well I agree. This album was released on the same day as Snoop's "Tha Last Meal" and I think it is better. The album starts off with this classic joint that has Snoop sounding like he did in his "Doggystyle" days. Snoop's flow is just like the flow we heard off of that album, so imedently I am very excited about this album. The beat is laced by the very talented Soopafly, a man who should be considered one of the best producers in the game. The beat has that same bounce and fun energy that the production from "Doggystyle" had. This song how ever was recorded for Snoop's original Doggystyle label off of Deathrow. It is abundantly clear with lines like "Dogg Pound, Doggystyle, Deathrow is the logo". His album for that label would have been another classic with songs like this.5/5

2.C WALKIN-this is one of the most g'ed up songs I have heard in a long time. The dark thumping beat is from the likes of Big Hutch [Cold 187 Um], and Myrion. The beat is the perfect back drop for Snoop to get in to some real gangsta music. With this dark, gloomy beat Snoop tells the tales of life in the streets and how one has to survive, the hook sums it up "shoot em up, shoot em up bang bang it's all apart of the gang bang". I can't tell if this was recorded for "Tha Dogg Father" or for his Doggystyle recordz company. Another classic from Tha Dogg Father.4.5/5

3.HEAD DOCTOR-this was the first single from the album, and rightfully so. This beautiful remix was produced by the talented Kurt Kobane, who is known for his work on the "Chronic 2000" album. You can hear the original on the "Deathrow Uncut" video during a skit featuring Snoop. The song is labeled as Swoop G featuring Snoop Doggy Dogg but I think it is the other way around. This is another song I think was for Snoop's release off of his Doggystyle label debut, because Swoop G was signed to his label before their beef. This high octane remix is one of the best all around songs I have heard in a long time, the bouncy beat, hot lyrics, and catchy hook make it a rap classic.5/5

4.HIT ROCKS-another track that could have been for the "Dogg Father" album or for his label debut, this is another classic Snoop track. It is produced by D.J. Pooh and Snoop himself. This is a great track to chill and listen to, the beat is a pure west coast influenced beat that has made this a classic. Now when listening to the lyrics some might have heard this remixed by D.J. Quik on Snoop's "No Limit Top Dogg" album. This my friends is the classic original, and I think is the better version.4.5/5

5.TOMMY BOY-this is a great Daz Dillinger produced track, who also features on the song. The beat is a very well produced bumping track by Daz, who rides shot gun along side Tha Dogg Father on this classic DPG track. Each artist exchanges verse after verse until finally reaching the end when Tommy himself speaks for a second. This is the tale of Tommy Boy and Snoop and Daz riding shot gun with him threw it all. Over all this is a classic Dogg Pound track.4/5

6.CHANGE GONE COME-this track could easily be the best all around track off of the album. Not only does Snoop show us his lyrical abilities on here but he also laces the beat along side Soopafly, and L.T. Hutten. That alone should tell you this is another classic Snoop track, check it out your self. It has an excrete from the movie "Colors".5/5

7.TOO BLACK-this track has the same production team as the previous song minus Soopafly, and it still works out perfectly. This beat is a very laid back r&b influenced type of track, and it works perfectly with Snoop's voice. The lyrics are some of his more meaningful type of lyrics, this is another one of those classic tracks. Sounds like some old school soul stuff.4/5

8.GANGSTA WALK-another excrete from the film "Colors", and it fits the tone of the track. Daz was the one behind the boards again and it shows, the beat is one of those raw gangsta tracks that Daz is known for. This track features Tha Dogg Pound [Daz& Kurupt], and both fit in perfectly with Snoop on this DPG track. All three sound perfect to this track, the flows are on point, and the beat makes you want to get your walk on. All three are all over the track so it is hard to say who this track was meant for, but it is yet another classic Dogg Pound track. The beat might sound simple to some, but it feels real gritty and underground to me.4.5/5

9.COUNTY BLUES-"Colors" must have had a very big influence on Snoop, with another excrete from the film. The lyrics for this song are just like those found on the classic "Lil Ghetto Boy", that prison talk. With the eerily truthful lyrics about the pin and the beat by Daz and Big Hutch, this track ends up as another classic for the Deathrow archives. "County Blues" is another track that shows us what Snoop should still be like.4/5

10.I WILL SURVIVE-another excrete from "Colors", a thumping beat produced by Soopafly, and verses from Technique, Snoop Dogg, and Kurupt could only mean another DPG classic. This is another track that was recorded for Doggystyle recordz, being that Tech was signed to the label as a member of the L.B.C. Crew. Kurupt takes the hook for this song while Snoop and Technique exchange verses, in fact the more I hear it I think this is Technique's song. He definitely shines a little more then his big homie Snoop, but Snoop still holds it down.4.5/5

11.MY FAVORITE COLOR-man Snoop, another excrete from "Colors", he must love that movie. This is probably the only track that I think should not have been on the album, listen for your self. The production from Hutch and Myrion is lagging, and Snoop's flow is a little to lazy on this track. His lyrics are deep, but they don't flow right at times, in fact the only thing I like about this track is the hook by Big Hutch.3.5/5

12.ME AND MY DOGGS-we end the album with another classic from Tha Dogg Pound, the returning production team of Snoop and L.T. Hutten hold it down with this thumping beat. Snoop holds it down for the two verses, and I' am feeling his second verse a little more. It is labeled that Technique features in this song, but that is not true, which is a shame. This like many of the others opened with an excrete from the movie "Colors", he loves that film I guess.4.5/5

To be honest I did buy this, but when I found out who I had supported I kicked myself. The songs are great which is why I gave it four stars but do not support Suge Knight!!! Suge Knight is a horrible person and is very likely resonsable for Tupac's death, and to get his hands on peoples hard earned money he whips up stuff like this. Download this because all the songs are great but do not support Suge Knight by buyi ng this or any other money making propaganda his selling.

This is a collection of unreleased Snoop from his Deathrow days and i'm very glad that they made this. Snoop lost his talent after he left Deathrow and started making albums that just don't last. However I think I speak for everyone when I say I'm very happy that Snoop gave us this treasure. these songs were unreleased but they are definitely not bottom of the barrel material. The album kicks of with May I which is a favourite of mine and a great start to the album then follows on with great other tracks like C-Walkin, Head Doctor, Too Black, Gangsta Walk, County Blues, My Favourite Color, Me And My Doggs and more great tracks.

Maybe its just because Snoop was really focused back then and didn't make any bad songs. If you like this you will have to like the other Snoop Doggy Dogg albums like The Chronic, Doggysytle, Murder Was The Case Soundtrack, Tha Doggfather and Death Row's Snoop Doggy Dogg's Greatest Hits.

They made this to end an era, the era of Snoop Doggy Dogg click add to cart now, do not alow yourself to miss some of Snoop's best work.
