Product Description
A variety of attachments for your Kitchen Aid stand mixer
Amazon.com Review
This assortment of attachments makes your KitchenAid stand mixer as flexible as a Swiss army knife. You get the food grinder, the slicer and shredder, and the fruit and vegetable strainer. Pull out the first and you're grinding meat, breadcrumbs, and more; the second churns out sliced vegetables for potato chips, coleslaw, and the like, or shredded potatoes for hash browns; and the third has you whipping up apple butter in a snap. Each has its own instruction booklet, with tips and recipes. An excellent gift set for your favorite stand-mixer fan. --Betsy Danheim

A little disappointed - Reviewed on 2008-03-16

Given Kitchen-Aid's history of setting "the standard" for high quality kitchen appliances, I was a little disappointed by how much of this kit is made from plastic.
The juicer attachment works very well, in spite of it's plastic construction, as does the grinder. The only complain I have about the grinder is that it uses a single four blade cutter, and two different size strainer plates to provide large and small grinding. I suppose this is fine if you only want to use it to make hamburger. It is not at all like the old cast iron hand crank grinder I have which uses three differnet blades, with different numbers of cutters for various degrees of chopping. I am not sure how well the Kitchenaid grinder will work for making relish, as an example. I guess I will see when I use it.
The most disappointing aspect is the shredder/slicer. This attachment was my primary reason for buying this set. The cutting drums are heavy, probably 18 gauge, stainless steel, which is much heavier than many of the models from Rival and Oster that I have seen. Unfortunately, the cutters are crudely stamped into the drums, and only had a cursory grind on the edge. They were anything but sharp. I attempted to run a potato through the thick slicer, and ended up with mashed raw potato. Results from the thin slicer were similar. The shredders work pretty wll for cheese, but make a pulpy mess out of vegetables. After I redressed the edges of the slicer with a Dremel tool, they work pretty well, but would have been better served by having actual cutter blades welded or riveted on, like my mom's old Rival drum slicer had.
Perhaps what I received is a factory second, because the quality of this item did not mesure up to what I have come to expect from Kitchen-Aid.
