Amazon.com Review

This set represents a revelation for any cook with a drawer full of stained, blunt knives. Nearly every basic kitchen-cutlery need is satisfied in one package compact enough to place on the counter within reach. Everything fits into the rubber-footed, solid block. Included are a 3-inch paring knife, a 5-inch utility knife, an 8-inch chef's knife, a 5-inch boning knife, an 8-inch bread knife, a 9-inch steel, and six 4-inch steak knives. International Fine Edge is an inexpensive cutlery line made in countries other than Henckels's home of Germany. The knives don't have bolsters and the steel is of lesser quality than Henckels' premier lines--the blades are less strong. The knives are dishwasher-safe, but it's not recommended. --Fred Brack

Knives Not German - Reviewed on 2008-04-01

So far the knives are sharp and I hope they hold up, but the handles are plastic and they seem flimsy. Note that the blades are made in Japan and the block in Malaysia...the name, however, is German.
Good set of Knifes - Reviewed on 2007-12-25

I bought this set of knifes because I needed something new and in good price, they turned out to be fare, but not what I expected, now I know that if I want a good set of knifes I should buy some made in Germany, not China.

Even though, they work good enough for what I need them for.
Surprised by Amazon :-( - Reviewed on 2007-02-28

We bought the set to give as a gift, so we won't really know for some time how the knives fare. But we were surprised by two things. The set that Amazon shipped is not the set that is shown and described; and the box says "dishwasher safe" with an asterisk, and the footnote says "Not recommended by J. A. Henckels International"!!!!!!!

Makes you wonder who printed "dishwasher safe" on the box, doesn't it, if the manufacturer is the one who recommends not doing that.

The set that Amazon actually shipped is a 13 piece set, but it doesn't have the 8" bread knife, and it doesn't have the 6" boning knife. Instead it has a 7" Santoku knife and a kitchen shears. The shears are probably more useful than the boning knife, but this is the first time that Amazon has shipped us something that isn't what they are advertising.
