Editorial Reviews and Product Descriptions

Product Description

Editorial Review

Busy little hands will discover plenty of projects to complete with this sturdy, pintsize workhorse. Less than 2 feet tall, it stands easily on the floor or on a table. The tan pounding bench has five holes into which young carpenters can pound two chunky plastic nails or secure two colorful screws hidden under the bench's flip top. Easy-grip plastic screwdriver, hammer, and wrench also store under the pounding bench, or you can hang them on pegs. Three interlocking gears give youngsters a glimpse at the mechanics of cause-and-effect actions. Although the workhorse does not collapse for compact storing, a built-in handle does allow for easy toting. --Liane Thomas

FRUSTRATION AWAITS! - Reviewed on 2009-01-03

Some toys simply should come put together, right out of the box. This toy is one of those toys. I think the reason this one doesn't is because the manufacturer (surely, some company in China) doesn't want to have the employees assigned to assembling this piece of garbage to quit their jobs.

Talk about frustrating! What's really frustrating about this toy is that when you open the box and see inside, you immediately realize they only save about 24 square inches of space not assembling it before shipping it.

While this toy may provide some amusement to your child - FIND SOMETHING ELSE! This one is a pain in the butt to put together.
Not work 5 dollars - Reviewed on 2007-06-07

We picked this up at a garage sale for $5.00 and it was not even worth that price. I've tried it with both my kids (now 3 and 1) at different stages and it has never held their attention for a moment. The tools fall off and don't manipulate the screws, etc. easily. Plus, it is difficult to work the gadgets by hand if the tools are too complicated.

Don't waste your money on this. I'd advise a set of hand tools (drills, etc) instead. By the time they have the manual dexterity to use the features on this toy, they are too busy and active to want to sit still at a small toy like this.

I don't like the word boring, but it is apt for this toy. We are giving it away as it just takes up space without offering much to do. My son doesn't play with it at all, and we were really disappointed in it. Your money could be put to better use on another toy.

Yes it was hard to put together but i took a second look at the directions and was missing and importain part. There is a grey piece used to put the toy together and it must be used properly or you will be fustrated. My daugher is only 14 months and loved the toy she likes to hammer to nails in we are still working on learning how to put the screws in. Mom can do it with ease but she is figuring it out. The gears also work fine on mine. I think it's a great toy for a younger kid by 2.5 or 3 i'm sure she will be done with it.
All-around waste of money - Reviewed on 2006-09-30

First, the workbench is insanely difficult to assemble. Such a simple, small toy shouldn't require two strong people for assembly. Secondly, the workbench legs do not stay open during regular toddler play. My son likes to push his toys around the room and the legs fold in each time. Forget about it staying upright for any amount of time. Also, the front gears are too stiff to move for a 1-year-old. Don't waste your money.
