Review #211. This may be a first - don't think I've ever seen a title like this with over 200 fan reviews. I remember when this CD was first released. There was plenty of promotional work done for VAST, that I know for a fact. Knew I still had my copy, buried under stack(s) of other CD's I haven't heard in eons. Best described as post-grunge / alternative. It's all coming back to me now, as I'm hearing some of 'Vast Audio Sensory Theater's cuts that stuck in my mind then are the same tracks that I like now - "Touched", the sappy "Pretty When You Cry", the Type O Negative-like "I'm Dying" and the should-have-been a hit "Three Doors". Fans of Rammstein, Nine Inch Nails, Afghan Whigs and Concrete Blonde might get as least as much as I did out of this effort.

After receiving the album immediately, all I could tell is that it's definetly worth your money! Almost every single song is greater to listen to each time. It took me over three or four weeks until I finally stopped and listened to something else! But even to this day, I'm hooked on listening to it every single night before going to sleep! I love it!!!

I'm not going to read though all 209 other reviews to see if this has been mentioned yet, but I'd like to state that not only is this a great debut album, it's also what I, myself, would call a great prog rock album. My boss at work turned me on to this CD, both of us being huge fans of Yes, Circa, Porcupine Tree, Office of Strategic Intelligence and the like. I'm glad he did, because when I sampled their most recent CD (the title of which escapes me), I didn't really care for what I heard. (Giving the talented members of this band the benefit of any doubt, maybe we can attribute that to the failings of only being able to listen to 30-second samples.) This particular CD is something else, though. Very, VERY cool instrumentation and great vocals overflowing with angst and supreme depth of expression. For any of you out there who, like me, are old enough to remember the golden days of prog rock, I have to state that there are times on this disc when I'm reminded of Van der Graaf Generator...especially during the frequent moments when Crosby's vocal wailings stray into the sacred territory of Peter Hammill. I highly recommend this recording to anyone who likes their prog rock with a harder-edged bite to it...I don't think you'll come away disappointed.

This music is some of the best music I have heard in many years. I was watching a movie called Step into Liquid(a surfing flick), which is also excellent, and I heard a cut off this CD. I had to listen to more. I downloaded it from ITunes, and decided I need to get the CD. I would love it they released it in 5.1 surround. I highly recommend this CD and their other one Nude, you will not be disappointed.

Especially now in 2006 I find this album even more amazing. Pick this album up if you like good music. Jon Crosby is an amazing singer and song writer. The music just moves you. It's truly great.
