Karla's first & still the best... - Reviewed on 2007-11-23

You probably heard Linda Ronstadt versions of some of her songs first, but Karla Bonoff is the best interpreter of her own tunes. Any fan of 70's and 80's pop will enjoy this great CD. It's tough to beat "Someone to Lay Down Beside Me" - beautiful song.

2007's Karla Bonoff Live CD is also highly recommended.

For those fans of Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt and the like, Karla Barnoff's debut album showcases the melodies that she composed, but were often made famous by other singers. Miss Barnoff's haunting voice and soulful, heartfealt renditions of her own creations are not to be missed!

A friend introduced me to the music of Karla Bonoff a number of years ago when we were talking about Linda Ronstadt. I have found it difficult to access Karla's music in Australia but when I found this album on Amazon I grabbed it. I am so pleased that I did. This lady has one of the sweetest voices you will ever hear and her consumate skill with what can only be called the pure poetry of her songs leaves you wanting more. An excellent album and very much worth a listen.

For a recording more than 25 years old (this really dates me) I still find myself listening to it quite often. I can't really say that I'm a hard core Karla Bonoff fan however this recording seems timeless. The songs are overpowering in their simplicity and not over-produced. KB's voice is not so perfect that it's too plastic sounding but has enough rawness and edge that you'll remember it immediately. And 8 of the 10 songs were written by KB--hard to beat. This is probably a recording that will be enjoyed by females more than males.
