Editorial Reviews and Product Descriptions

Album Description

Birds sing softly as a light rain falls throughout the woods. A distant rumble grows until the thunder's fury pierces the forest calm. Rain increases as the thunder grows closer. When the storm retreats, the rain slackens as frogs and birds begin to sing.

I play this CD on my Bose and it sounds great. Only problem is I've never heard the whole recording. I keep falling asleep before the last of the thunder rolls!
Best thunderstorm recording I have heard - Reviewed on 2008-04-12

I've listened to probably around five different thunderstorm CDs, and this one is the best. I've listened to it perhaps hundreds of times.

It's difficult to get good recordings of thunderstorms because of the obvious difficulty of predicting them, so I salute anyone who tries. Yet the people who made this recording really did do a good job compared to the other recordings I've heard. There's much variation in the actual storms and a huge range of audio dynamics, from the beginning peltings of light showers to the tempestous crashing of thunder and heavy rain. And unlike other recordings of rain or thunderstorms, it neither has a tinny (or electronic-sounding) sound quality nor rain sounds that resemble static repeatedly duplicated and juxtaposed.

The CD is divided into three tracks: the first ("Showers") is about three minutes of showers, simple enough, with some bird chirping noises; the second ("Thunder and Rain") is 26 minutes of a heavy rainstorm with varying clashes of thunder; the third ("Jamboree") is approximately 17 minutes of the storm tapering off (and it tapers very quickly), and also includes bird chirps amongst brief crashes of thunder. When I listen to the CD, I mostly listen to the first two tracks and then skip the third. The third, I can generally do without.

If you find bird chirping at all annoying, this CD is worth getting simply for the 26-minute second track.

This is the perfect cd for those who are looking to relax and calm the mind. I am a big fan of the 'Echoes of Nature' Series.

The cd progresses smoothly through all stages of the storm. From the quiet beginnings of the rain lightly falling through the end with the birds lightly welcoming the sun back into the sky.

As in all of their cds, there is no music accompaniment, just nature. The storm itself is never overly loud. There are also separate tracks for those who like to repeat. I highly recommend this CD!
Birds chirping merrily away in a thunderstorm? - Reviewed on 2008-01-03

The rainstorm sounds really good in this CD. There is no background music to distract from the rain. But, it gets a three star rating. Just barely.

The Birds are front and center! Where I live, the birds have enough sense to stay in their nests, out of the rain, during a thunderstorm. They come out and chirp when the rain stops and the sun shines. Smart birds.

This would have been a much better CD if the producers had shown as much sense as the birds do in my part of the country. If you are looking for just a good old-fashioned rainstorm with no wildlife on display, keep on looking. This CD is not what you are looking for.

I have this cd and another (forgot the name). Won't buy another. Thunder is too loud to sleep by, and when you turn down the volume, the rain sounds are so low you can't hear them.
