Just as Green Day aped the Ramones, their contemporaries in this Southern California punk quartet aspired to be the Clash. But also like Green Day, Rancid's fresh approach and excellent songs (including the ska-punk MTV hit "Time Bomb" and the anthemic "Roots Radicals") rose far above tribute-band level. And poet Jim Carroll (The Basketball Diaries) adds spoken-word stream-of-consciousness to the dour "Junkyman." While 19 songs makes this 1995 CD drag on a bit too long, Wolves is evidence of punk rock's relevance a full two decades after the Sex Pistols. --Steve Knopper

Ska sucks, this "new" lame excuse for punk is just made to sell to idiots dumb enough to buy it (like my brother)basically everyone who says they like this is a poser. great job! ^_^

I am tired of these reviewers saying that rancid is not punk. So what? They never said they were. They play what they want, and that happens to be music that is punk influenced, ska influenced, hardcore influenced, with many other influences. Just because someone has a mohawk and has punk influences does not mean that they are screaming to you "PLEASE BRAND ME AS A PUNK".
With that out of the way, Rancid is one of my top 5 favorite bands and this is one of my top 10 cds that I own (I own over 800 cds on the last count a year ago). This album has no filler tracks and is awesome in every aspect desired: lyrically, musically, and energy-wise. If you have not heard Rancid, this is the album to start with and the other ones are almost as good, too.

but what you really have here is good, catchy, even poppy, songs that ebb between streetpunk and ska. Strong organ solos on a couple tracks. Great lyrics. "Out Come the Wolves" is a pretty big leap from the gritty streetpunk of "Let's Go." There next album, "Life Won't Wait" is more in the vein of "Out Come the Wolves" and I highly recomend it to anybody who likes this record. Unfortunatley, I can't recomend any of the more recent records.

I was hesitant about buying this cd at first because I had never heard a song by Rancid before, only suggestions from friends. And the first time I listened to it I hated it, absolutely hated it. It took three months before i put it into my stereo again. I started to like it a little bit more, and a little bit more. Five years, all their cd's, and a couple concerts later Rancid is by far my favorite band. ...And Out Come The Wolves is my favorite album and It can always be found in one of the decks of my stereo. What makes this cd, and all of their stuff, great is the lyrics. Tim's voice is so different from everyone else out there that its really refreshing. Sure they sing about love and girls, but they are intelligent songs about love and girls not like the emo crap out there now. My personal favorites are tracks 1-19. But out of those tracks "M.I.A", "As Wicked", and "Avenues and Alleyways" are my favorite. Buy this Cd and go to their concerts, these guys know how to put on a show, and their music is even better live.
