Heavy and dark, though perhaps not so strong as its follow-up, Paegan Terrorism Tactics. While strong, it lacks the variety and character on the later album, and would also have been well served by a slimming down, reducing some of the more repetitive tracks.

But, still, good overall.

I saw these guys many moons ago as a teen in Louisiana, somewhere in bum-fu*k swampland. Lawd!... was it worth the trip! I was completely FLOORED by the vocals & performance of Dax Riggs. I'd never seen a native of LA perform in such a creative & exciting way. The whole band was awesome.
I think this album was in Demo status at that point, as a 'new' bandin the underground scene, they were definitely gaining quite a buzz. If you listen through this album, you can still feel how special these guys were (are) and how many "big" underground bands of today (and the like) have been influenced by them.
If you're into NOLA music, underground, heavy and the REAL DEAL...you gotta get this album.

Ever so now and then, a band comes along that really shakes things up and changes the way we listen to music. The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Metallica, and... Acid Bath?

OK, so not everyone has heard of these guys. Except for those of us in the faithful underground. Unfortunately, (or not!) some "would-be legendary" bands never achieve fame. Acid Bath is one of these bands.

This music is not for everyone. From the front cover featuring a painting by convicted serial murderer John Wayne Gacy to the chilling pulsing rythyms and dark poetry of "Scream of the Butterfly", this album does NOT pull any punches. It is dark, brooding, evil, poetic, raw, haunting and beautiful. Frontman Dax Riggs croons and screams from the deepest corners of his soul while Sammy Duet provides the torturous demonic wails that rip through many of the tracks. Every song on here is excellent, but the standouts aside from the aforementioned track are "Dr. Suess is Dead", the classic "Fingerpaintings of the Insane", "Jezebel", "Morticians Flame", "What Color is Death" and "Bones of Baby Dolls". If you have not heard this band and you are a fan of metal who can handle some dark subjects, you owe it to yourself to buy this album immediately. It is unfortunate that these guys only put out two studio albums in their short career, but they are both musical opuses.

A must have for anyone who is serious about music. SCREAM OF THE BUTTERFLY is hands down one of the best songs out there.

This isn't an album you can categorize in a certain genre.Acid Bath transcend many genres of music (Psychadelic rock, Nola Death Metal and thrash)to bring you a cd that will influence rock and metal artists for generations to come. I was 16 years old when i first heard this cd. I am now 23 years of age and it rocks even harder than it did back then. Any of you metalcore kids want to hear where Killswitch got their breakdowns or Atreyu got their gothness from then listen to this cd.The coolest tracks are Jezebel, Scream of the Butterfly, Toubabo Koomi and God Machine. The only difference between this band and metal bands nowadays is this guy can actually carry a note which is a continuing problem with metal lately. Lamb of God is cool and all but Randy Blythe should really look into taking some singing lessons soon because he sucks.Anyways get this cd because it rocks.
